MULTI-CULTURAL EDUCATION COLLABORATIVE (LAMEC)

MISSION
The mission of the Los Angeles Multicultural Education Collaborative is to create strong civic engagement and multi-cultural cooperation by youth and parents in achieving maximum educational outcomes.

CURRICULUM
Students and parents attend weekly and bi-weekly workshops 2 - 3 hours per session; where they receive an extensive curriculum on education, leadership and advocacy. Student workshops include: High School Readiness (high school graduation requirements, A-G curriculum, high school exit exams); College Readiness and Financial Planning (the Financial Aid process, FAFSA/College Resources and Scholarships) and Cultural Awareness (Civil Rights and How Society Views African American Youth) just to name a few.

Parental workshops aid the parents in becoming advocates for their children. They are given the tools to navigate their children's educational future and learn to take an active role in the education process. Workshops include: Parent Education (College Readiness, Student and School Data, and Effective Standards Based Curriculum & Instruction); NCLB and Public School Accountability (Parents Rights & Responsibilities). The Parental workshop schedule was organized with regard and respect for the busy schedules of our parents.
