Substitute Teacher II/Site Supervisor
Position Definition
The Head Start Substitute Teacher II/Site Supervisor is responsible for the planning and implementation of a curriculum at their assigned site, as well as the classrooms that meets the Head Start Program requirements to promote social, physical and intellectual growth in preparation for primary school in preschool, day care center or other child development facility. The Substitute Teacher II/Site Supervisor position is responsible for all activities associated with the operations of the site. This position is situated in the Center Services component of the Head Start State Preschool program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
- Plans and implements the Individualized plans for the children in the site and classroom.
- Creates and modifies the daily classroom lesson plans in accordance with established curriculum.
- Ensures for a healthy and safe physical environment for the children, and integrates the parents into the educational program by providing a program that focuses on the parent as the prime educational provider
- Coordinates and conducts parent/teacher conferences and home visits twice a year.
- Maintains records pertinent information about children in the site and classrooms
- Constantly maintains site and classroom security throughout the school day session.
- Provides for the completion of necessary paperwork on the children in the site/classrooms (such as attendance reports, observations on individual children in the classrooms, enrollment records and reports, etc).
- Continually remains current on child development practices through classes, workshops and membership in professional organizations.
Knowledge and Skills Required
To be eligible for this position, the applicant must have as a minimum:
- Bachelor Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field, regardless of the program option from an accredited college or university
- Valid Child Development Site Supervisor Permit or higher issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

- Two (2) years experience in an instructional capacity
- Three (3) semester units in administration of Pre-School (Nursery)
- Twenty-Four (24) semester units of coursework in ECE/Child development (exclusive of fieldwork)
Conditions of Employment (prior to hire)
- General Requirement:
- A completed background investigation (including fingerprinting and criminal screening)
- First Aid and CPR certification. It is to be updated as required
- Health Requirements:
- A completed physical examination (with drug screening)
- A verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment (issued within 6 months prior to employment). It is to be renewed every year after employment.
