Emerging Leaders Academy

The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and the Los Angeles Urban League have partnered to create an educational program for gang members and those at risk. The Emerging Leaders Academy also provides essential skills for employment and serves as an alternative to criminal behavior and violence.

Participants are provided forum geared toward changing negative belief systems, building self-reliance and self-empowerment, and identifying employment skills and action plans for achievement. Academic, vocational, and personal assessments for job placement, personal guidance, mentoring, and training are also furnished.

Participants in the program must be nominated by community leaders, Los Angeles Urban League staff, probation Department members, and/or Sheriff's Department members.

Classes are held at the Los Angeles Urban League Milken Family Literacy and Youth Training Center, 5414 Crenshaw Boulevard, Los Angeles.
