Apply for the $1,000 Youth Community Development Council Grant

Youth Council

The Los Angeles Urban League (South) Youth Community Development Council is dedicated to creating programs available to those less fortunate by utilizing the funds allocated to us. This Committee is responsible for awarding $1,000 in grant funds for community service learning projects to organizations that serve the south Los Angeles Area.

We are looking to fund education/youth programs offering tutorials, job and college prep services, in addition to performing and visual art components. Also, programs meeting the critical needs of the homeless by supplying shelter, healthy food, and employment opportunities.

If you have your B.A. with background in MATH or SCIENCE and would like to become a teacher, we are looking for you!

The Los Angeles Urban Teacher Residency with the Center for Collaborative Education (CCE) and CSULA is a 14-month intensive credential and master’s degree program that provides teacher residents with rigorous, practical coursework connected to the experience of observing and working with a math or science mentor teacher in a reform-minded school in LAUSD.

You will earn:

Biz Institute for young people (13-24) with the desire to know how to start and run a business. Training schedule January 4 - 8, 2010 (9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) and then again during the Spring break from school. The training will assist them in determining the type of business through a completed business plan in 60 hours. They will also compete in the business plan competition.

Young Entrepreneurs are to arrive by 8:45 a.m. daily

Attire:  Business Casual

Lunch will be provided daily.

Using the NFTE (Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship) cuirriculum, guest speaker will visit the class daily.

During the summer of 2008, several young participants at the Los Angeles Urban League's Milken Youth Center participated in a Podcast Bootcamp. The participants were tasked with making podcasts and videos about the Youth Center under the instruction of Daphne Bradford. In this podcast, all the participants talk about the experience at the Milken Youth Center.

The Los Angeles Urban League Milken Center has a great representation for getting youth involved. At the center on 5414 Crenshaw blvd, the podcast workshop has motivated young adults to inspire each other to excel in technology. Under the leadership of Dr. Renee Smith-Maddox, participants are given a look into 21st century technology, with the care guidance of Ms. Daphne Bradford, Apple Distinguished Educator.
