Nolan V. Rollins, President & CEO
Rollins, an attorney, becomes the seventh President and CEO in the 91-year-old history of the Los Angeles Urban League, one of the most respected and influential nonprofit organizations in the State of California. Rollins will report to LA Urban League Board Chair, Noel Massie and the Board of Directors, leading a more than 100-strong League staff and volunteer team focused in the areas of workforce development, early childhood education and neighborhood transformation models in health, housing, safety, education, and employment. Rollins is has relocated to Los Angeles and has exp assumed his new leadership role in February 2013.
Angela Reddock, Human Resources Executive
Reddock is a distinguished attorney, with a specialty in human resources and employment and labor law. While the bulk of her practice has included employment and labor law litigation on behalf of employers, her greatest joy is in working with clients to grow and enhance their human capital and their human resources infrastructure. To this extent, she has joined the Los Angeles Urban League to provide leadership in implementing its “Good to Great” employee enhancement and human resources program.
In addition to her work with the Los Angeles Urban League, Reddock maintains her private law practice where she represents public, private and non-profit sector employers in all aspects of employment and labor law litigation, including wrongful termination, harassment, and discrimination. Reddock also provides preventative training on such topics as “Managing within the Law: The Do’s & Don’ts of Managing for Supervisors” and “Preventing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace”.
John Kennedy, Senior Vice President of Government and External Affairs
Kennedy will be responsible for oversight for the League’s corporate, foundation and government fundraising efforts and serve as the League’s liaison on government and public policy issues at the federal, state and local levels. In addition, Kennedy will oversee the League’s membership and volunteer initiatives and the League’s auxiliary organizations – the Guild and the Young Professionals. “We are pleased to have John Kennedy join as an executive of the Los Angeles Urban League,” said Taylor. “As our nation and local governments struggle in an adverse economic environment, rendering cuts that disproportionally affect disadvantaged individuals that are served by the League, it is critical that we have a proven professional in the lead on fund development and government relations to drive efforts to sustain our ability to provide quality services for those in need. John Kennedy is that proven leader.”
Kyla Lee, Vice President of Finance
Kyla Lee is the Vice President of Finance and Administration of the Los Angeles Urban League, a position held since 2008. The League is an affiliate of one of the nation's leading civil rights organizations with offices in more than 100 cities. For more than 90 years, the LA Urban League has led the nation as one of the largest and most diverse community based organizations aimed at improving the conditions of the underserved through holistic neighborhood transformation efforts.
L. C. “Chris” Strudwick-Turner joined the Los Angeles Urban League in March 2006 as the Vice President of Marketing & Communications. Strudwick-Turner is responsible for all marketing, communications and public relations as well as development. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, she plays a pivotal role in the creation and implementation of the League’s strategic planning and organizational marketing/PR plans.
Patricia A. Phipps, Ed.D, Vice President of Early Childhood and Development
Dr. Phipps has had a long and distinguished career in the field of early education that began when she owned and operated two successful child development centers in Houston, Texas. From that start, she became a highly respected leader who has served as a nationally elected officer (Vice President) and board member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She has held local and statewide offices in AEYC affiliates and was the first Executive Director of the largest AEYC affiliate organization, the California AEYC.
When Dr. Phipps assumed leadership of CAEYC, she ushered in a period of unprecedented innovation, change, and growth for the organization. She was instrumental in helping CAEYC gain significant visibility and impact in the field of early care and education, particularly in the state public policy arena. Her expertise in early childhood education, her keen grasps of organizational and policy issues, and her articulate spokesmanship were invaluable in helping to position CAEYC as a strong leader in the state.
